My birthday is on Thursday

admin | General Spanish | Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

My birthday is on Thursday. I’ll be just a sprightly 46.

That number was starting to feel big but thanks to the video below I say, “who gives a hoot”. I feel young.

Isn’t that guy amazing?

Why be all negative and grouchy when it comes to aging with guys like Fritz around to inspire us. Here’s a guy who has the strength and flexibility of a 29-year-old… super athlete… and he’s 69.

He took up rock climbing, rowing and cross-country skiing after his 60th birthday.

I’m 46 on Thursday but after seeing that video, who cares. I feel young. I’ve got great kids, work I love and good health, even if I can’t stand on my head.

Fritz inspires me, but many of my students have inspired me even more. They’re learning Spanish in their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and even 90s.

I don’t know if I could have believed it myself if I hadn’t seen the results they are achieving.

They are taking adventures, traveling the world and having fun. They are learning new skills and jumping headfirst into their new language.

They’re relocating and embracing the local culture. Some even have new families that don’t speak English.

They’re enjoying new skills and hobbies, tossing aside self-limiting beliefs and cultural stereotypes. They’re getting on with living as they want to live.

You can have a youthful spirit no matter what your chronological age. Real age isn’t about a number; it’s about experiencing life and learning new things.

Benjamin Franklin said, “some people die at 25 but they are not buried until they are 75”.

No matter your age, you can go where others fear to go. You can embrace life with vitality and passion.

Quit listening to others who are quick to tell you what you can’t do.

Just like the 69-year-old guy on the video above you choose how high you want to set your bar.

Why have so many people in their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and even 90s, come to me?

They want to speak Spanish with real people. They don’t want to waste their time in a classroom. They want to get down to business and speak the language and experience all that life has to offer.

I don’t care about exams, evaluations or accreditations. I only focus on helping you speak Spanish the easiest and fastest way possible… no matter your age.

Are you ready to take the challenge?

Throw off any limitations others have set on you. Here’s 3 levels to take you Spanish as far as you want to go.

Break through to getting By in Spanish

Breakthrough to getting fluency

Breakthrough to mastery

Did you have a chance to listen to the audio on this page?

Sideways Spanish Audio Numero Uno Gratis

I used to be nervous about sharing too much of the Sideways Approach to Spanish verbs.

It’s built into my course, but I didn’t want the “secret” just sitting out there for free…where other Spanish teachers could steal it.

These days I feel much more secure. I have loyal fans all over the world and I know I can always make a living doing what I do best.

I’m not afraid to put my secret out there anymore.

If other teachers adapt to my style, that’s great! We’ll be allies in changing the abysmal way Spanish is taught.

We’ll free the world from a traditional approach that robs most people of their chance of ever enjoying Spanish.

Instead, anyone who wants to speak Spanish will be able to. And it won’t matter their age or education background.

Despite it’s power, Sideways Spanish is embarrassingly simple. It just takes a small turn in the approach and everything falls into
place.

Yet, don’t be misled by how easy it is. It holds the key to getting everything you want from Spanish. Everything that inspired you about the language in the first place can be yours if you follow this change in approach.

It’s the biggest reason I have been able to break the barriers for so many of my students. Even people who had tried for as many as four decades without success are now, finally, enjoying the language.

It’s that powerful. Try it for yourself, about halfway down the page above the comments:

Sideways Spanish Audio Numero Uno Gratis

After you check out the audio, read a few of the unedited comments below it about what a difference it makes once you put it into practice.

The second refrito winner is

admin | General Spanish | Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

This is from the category “Learn Spanish for yourself”. This one was really hard to pick.

In the end I found one couple that summed up the experience of so many. It’s going to be great to see them turn their lives around.

Here’s the winning entry.

I am 71 years old and I came to live in Spain two years ago. I had been coming down for several years in a RV just to spend the winters away from the cold UK. I really had no need to speak Spanish as everyone I met spoke English.

Now my wife and I are living here and find it totally frustrating not being able to Speak the language. We have tried going to classes but neither my wife nor I are up on or English grammar, so when it came to learning all the different parts of Spanish speech our minds just went blank. What we need is a simple uncomplicated way of learning the language; the way children learn, once we have the basics the rest I feel will follow.

It would give us great pleasure in been able to talk to our neighbours to feel confident when going to the doctor and not having to search for someone who can speak for us, in short just to live the life enjoy our new home and socialize with the local people. The joy of shopping and knowing what was in the tins instead of all the guess work. To think that we could read our mail that comes from the Spanish authorities.
I could go on to a thousand reasons for wanting this course, but in short it would turn our life around and give us the ability to stay in our new country and enjoy it to the full.

Felicidades Bill

I wish you all the best and I look forward to hearing how things change for you in your new country.

Saludos

Marcus

And the first refrito winner is…

One of the entries in the “help others” category just stood out. Here it is;

I’m a RN in rural Africa, Ghana to be precise. The doctor-patient ratio here is anything but encouraging. For that reason, the government has contracted Cuban doctors to close this yawning ratio. The problem is that most of these doctors don’t speak any good English. As a local, I’ve been tasked with a translator’s role in addition to my primary role as a nurse. I must admit that Synergy Spanish has helped me immensely in managing basic communication with these doctors. I am fervently looking forward to receiving this package. I strongly believe that it will go a long way to save more lives since a misinterpretation in health has dire consequences.

Gracias y saludos

This category was full of altruistic people doing wonderful things. However, I just couldn’t look past the possibility of lives saved.

Felicidades Ishak

I’ll announce the winner of the “help yourself” category early next week.

Spanish Class Charade Catastrophe

admin | General Spanish | Sunday, May 16th, 2010

Not everyone likes how I teach. Students usually love it, but the language coordinators I’ve worked with, they are another story.

Once when I was teaching English in Mexico the coordinator came into my classroom to show me how it was done.

A student asked me the meaning of an English word.

I was about to give him the translation when the coordinator jumped in and took over my class.

We then went through 5 minutes of craziness. It was somewhere between a circus, a pantomime and a vaudeville act.

She mimed. She used hand signals. She acted.

Yet, as I looked around the room all I saw was blank stares. I look back at the coordinator and she’s still going on with the show.

By now she’s practically doing hand stands and juggling. Then about 5 minutes into the festivities, she starts using the word in a sentence.

Now the students are guessing the meaning, but they still they can’t figure it out.

Finally someone yells out the word in Spanish. The coordinator points to them with a big smile and says…

Sí, eso es. – Yes, that’s it

The whole circus act was supposedly so we didn’t use Spanish in the classroom, yet the student translated into Spanish and the coordinator answered in Spanish.

Why didn’t she just translate it in the first place?

Solo Dios sabe! (God alone knows!)

I’m not sure what it is about foreign language teaching, but people come up with the goofiest ideas. They either seem to think you have to pound students with grammar or entertain them with games.

Yet, expressing yourself freely in another language is entertaining enough. No one needs the sideshow.

It’s thrilling when you discover you can say what you want to say in Spanish. And it’s exhilarating when you try it in real life on Spanish speakers and they get what you say right away.

I’ve haven’t found a faster way for you to experience sensation of success with Spanish than learning the most powerful Spanish patterns first. They open up the language for you. In fact, there are a handful of patterns so powerful that just 138 words can be turned into 88,0000 phrases.

My advice is to forget the grammar, forget the charades and get your Spanish started with power patterns first.

Spanish words now what?

admin | General Spanish | Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

If you just know words, even if you know thousands, you can still struggle to have good conversations with your amigos.

The good news is that once you add a missing ingredient your Spanish words come to life. I’ll show you the secret spice in a moment, but first a quick recap.

Do you remember you can make 325 Spanish words by changing English words that end in TION to CION. For example

Reservation = Reservación
Cancelation = Cancelación
Celebration = Celebración
Identificacion = Identificación
Corruption = Corrupción

Learning how to change English words into Spanish is the fastest way I know to build a huge Spanish vocabulary. But what do you do with the all those words?

If you only learn words you soon find out that you can’t say much. There’s something missing.

The missing ingredient is verbs, but don’t get scared. I’m not about to ruin your conentraCION and cause you intimidaCION about conjugaCION.

No none of that…

Instead, I’ll show you how communicaCION with verbs makes your Spanish come to life.

Here are two Spanish POWER VERBS you need to know.

Hay = there is / there are

Tengo = I have

Let’s see if you can read these Spanish sentences.

Hay mucha corrupcion en Mexico.
Hay una celebración en el honor de San Isidro Labrador.
Tengo vacaciones en octubre.
No tengo mi identificacion.
Hay muchas cancelaciones.

You understood everything right?

Adding verbs brings a static word list to life. It turns a bunch of words into real phrases that express real ideas. And here’s the best part…

Using Spanish verbs doesn’t take hours of studying dull conjugation charts. Instead, you can start with Spanish Power Verbs and speak in sentences right away.

Don’t forget your two first power verbs,

Hay = there is / there are

Tengo = I have

You’ll use them all the time.

In Shortcut to Spanish I teach you step by step how to use Power Verbs with the 3145 Instant Spanish Words. That way, you get to speak real Spanish right away. To make your Spanish come to life the easy way go to:

P.S. You also receive 3 hours of special audio lessons in Shortcut to Spanish. These audios show you how to quickly start putting full sentences together… even if you’ve had trouble from Spanish lessons before.

Listen to what Christopher has to say…

I LOVE THIS PROGRAM

I have been trying to learn Spanish for the past year. I knew a lot of words but now with your program I can put everything together. My Abuelos are from Cuba, and yesterday I was able to speak to my Abuela in complete Spanish.

Gracias por todo.
